Ingredients – What you need for the Salted Caramel Chocolate Chunk Cookies

Dry Ingredients

Flour

Flour is one of the key components when it comes to many cookie recipes and can help with the structure to form the perfect cookie. We like to use All-Purpose flour in our cookie recipes as we find it gives the best results. You will need 2 cups of flour for this cookie recipe. When measuring the flour use a measuring cup to ensure that you get the right quantity. Also, remember to sift the flour to get rid of any lumps before adding it to your other ingredients.

Cornstarch and baking soda

Baking soda is such an important element to add to the flour mixture. It helps with the rising and the overall shape of the cookie. You only need 1 tsp for this recipe. The cornstarch also helps to combine all of the ingredients together. You only need 2 tsp to help make a crunchy cookie.

Sea Salt

Because you are using unsalted butter this is where you can control the flavor. The sea salt is a key component to the flavor of this recipe and works so well with the sweet gooey caramels. You will only need 1/2 teaspoon but have extra for the topping.

Brown Sugar and White Sugar

Brown sugar will help to give that chewy texture we know and love when it comes to cookies. You only need 1 cup of it and it will produce incredible chewy cookies. The granulated white sugar helps with the sweetness to create a perfect balance in flavor. You need 1/4 cup for this recipe.

Wet Ingredients

Butter

For this recipe, you need 3/4 cup of butter that is softened at room temperature. Unsalted butter is best for this recipe so you can control the flavor especially as salt is a key component to the flavors of these cookies.

Egg

One large egg is the perfect addition to get the dough’s texture just right. The egg yolk also helps with that chewy texture and golden color of the cookies.

Vanilla extract

You can’t go wrong with the vanilla flavor when it comes to these delicious cookies and this will help with a natural vanilla flavoring. You will need 2 tsp of vanilla for this cookie recipe.

The fun bits

Frequently Asked Questions

How should I store the cookies?

You can store them at room temperature in an airtight container. They will last for up to a week at their best but you will find the longer you leave it, the drier and crunchier they will become. We don’t think they will last that long, they certainly don’t in our house.

Can you make these without the salt?

Sure, just reduce the salt slightly and refrain from adding any on the top. It will make them a very sweet cookie but they will still taste super good.

How to make the Salted Caramel Chocolate Chunk Cookies

One of the first things you will want to do is gather all of your ingredients together. Then you can preheat the oven to 350F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

In a large bowl whisk together flour, cornstarch, baking soda, and ½ teaspoon sea salt. Once these ingredients have combined you can then set the bowl aside while you carry on with the recipe.

In a mixing bowl beat together butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar. You can use an electric mixer for this if it is easier. Then add in the egg and vanilla. Once everything has been combined you can then stir in the dry ingredients. Make sure everything is combined thoroughly.

Cut each caramel candy into 4, and chop up the chocolate if using a full bar. Once you have your chunks of chocolate and caramel ready you can then fold them into your cookie mixture.

Chill the dough in the fridge for 30 minutes, then using a cookie scoop you can then add equal quantities of cookie dough balls to the cookie sheet.

Bake cookies for 10-12 minutes or until the edges are golden brown. Cool slightly on the pan then move to a wire rack to cool completely. Enjoy your cookies.

Take these chewy chocolate chip cookies to the next level

Instead of chocolate pieces from a bar, you could use chocolate chips instead. You will still get the same sweetness and flavor.

You could drizzle across the top some melted milk chocolate chunks or even a caramel sauce to really intensify the sweet flavors.

Add some extra caramel chunks if you love that sweet flavor.
