Chips Ahoy! Reveals Its Mystery Cookie Flavor On October 31, And Until Then A Daily Guess Enters A $25,000 Drawing

Chips Ahoy! has been selling a cookie since July without saying what it tastes like, and it plans to give the answer on Halloween. The limited-edition Chips Ahoy! Mystery Cookie is the brand’s first-ever mystery flavor, according to the July 30 announcement from Mondelēz International, which owns Chips Ahoy!. The reveal is set for Saturday, October 31, on the brand’s social media channels.
Until then, adults in the 50 states, Washington, D.C. and Puerto Rico can log one guess a day at ChipsAhoyMystery.com. The guess does not have to be right. Each one counts as an entry in a drawing for a $25,000 grand prize.
What Chips Ahoy! Has Said About The Cookie
Very little, on purpose. The brand’s story is that a glitch at its factory produced a cookie with “an unknown, out-of-this-world flavor,” one that, in the release’s words, “broke through from another flavor dimension.” Chip, the brand’s cookie mascot, fronts the campaign on the sweepstakes site in a hoodie, holding a laptop and asking for help fixing the glitch.
The package, as Chips Ahoy! shows it on that site and in the release, is black, crossed with lime-green “Unidentified Flavor” caution tape, and labeled “Limited Edition” and “Cookies, Artificially Flavored.” The cookie pictured on the front is golden, studded with pale chunks, with a bite taken out. The brand has not said what the chunks are.
According to the release, the cookies sold first in limited quantities through SnackWorks’ TikTok Shop, a first for the brand, and began rolling out to retailers nationwide on August 10.
How The Guessing Works
These are the terms from the official rules and the site’s FAQ.
- Sign up once. Enter an email address at ChipsAhoyMystery.com, follow the confirmation link, then register with your full name, home address (no P.O. boxes), phone number and date of birth. After that, the email address alone logs you in.
- Guess once a day. Each daily guess is one entry. You do not have to buy or taste the cookie, and the rules say a purchase or a scan of the QR code on the pack will not improve your odds. After each guess, the site shows the running tally of everyone’s guesses.
- One bonus entry. Opting into Chips Ahoy! marketing emails at registration earns one extra entry for the whole contest. The rules offer the same single entry by mail for anyone who would rather not get the emails; it must be mailed by November 2 and arrive by November 9.
- Age. 18 and older, 19 in Alabama and Nebraska, 21 in Puerto Rico.
The Last Day Ends At Noon, Not Midnight
Every other day of the contest runs until 11:59 p.m. Eastern. The last one does not. The official rules end the contest at 11:59 a.m. Eastern on Saturday, October 31, and the July release says the same. The short print at the bottom of the sweepstakes home page says 11:59 p.m., but the rules state that they govern when other materials disagree, and the countdown clock on that same page runs out at the morning deadline. A Halloween-night guess will be too late.
What A Guess Can Win
One grand prize winner gets a $25,000 check. Fifty second-prize winners each get a package of Chips Ahoy! cookies and Chips Ahoy! merchandise, with the contents chosen by the company and an approximate retail value of $95 each. There is a limit of one prize per household.
Winners are drawn at random on or around Monday, November 16, and notified by email. The grand prize winner has five days to return a signed declaration and an IRS Form W-9. The rules say prizes go out about eight to 10 weeks after the contest ends, and the winners’ names will be posted once they are confirmed.
While The Flavor Stays A Secret
Chips Ahoy! calls itself the No. 1 chocolate chip cookie brand in North America on its YouTube channel. For a homemade chocolate chip cookie in the meantime, our Chocolate Chip Cookies (My Favorite!) use brown sugar only and semi-sweet chips, with the dough rolled into balls and chilled briefly before baking. It is our own recipe, not a Chips Ahoy! copycat. We will report the mystery flavor when Chips Ahoy! announces it.
