Trader Joe’s A Singular Chocolate Chip Cookie Is One 3.5-Ounce Cookie For $1.99, With Milk And Semisweet Chips, And Trader Joe’s Says It Is The Largest Cookie It Sells

Trader Joe’s is selling a single chocolate chip cookie in its own package. A Singular Chocolate Chip Cookie, as the product is named, is $1.99 for a 3.52-ounce cookie, listed in the Bakery section under Sweet Stuff on Trader Joe’s website.

The chain says it is the biggest cookie in the store. The product page calls it “quite large and thick, the largest we sell, weighing in at 100g (3.5 ounces),” with “not one, but two varieties of Chips: milk Chocolate and semisweet Chocolate.” The bite is “soft (but not too soft),” Trader Joe’s writes, and “the recipe will look familiar to home-bakers, without a bunch of unnecessary extras in the ingredients.”

Why one cookie

Trader Joe’s says the single cookie is the start of something. “We’ve been looking to offer more individual treats in our bakery section, and we couldn’t think of a better way to launch that effort than with Trader Joe’s A Singular Chocolate Chip Cookie,” the page reads. The chain already sells chocolate chip cookies in several forms, it notes, “tiny ones, long ones, crunchy ones, some that are gluten free, some with Way More Chocolate Chips.”

The single-serving package is part of the pitch: open it when you are ready to eat it, the page says, “and you’ll have a fresh-tasting and delicious Cookie, whenever and wherever you are.” Trader Joe’s tags the item “Backpack Ready,” “Family Style” and “Treat Yourself,” among others.

What is in it

The ingredient list reads like a home recipe, as the page claims: unbleached enriched wheat flour, milk chocolate chips, semisweet chocolate chips, butter, sugar, brown sugar, eggs, baking powder and salt, plus guar gum and microbial enzymes. It contains milk, egg, soy and wheat, and may contain peanut and macadamia nut.

The nutrition label counts the cookie as three servings. One serving is a third of the cookie, 33 grams, at 160 calories, 7 grams of fat and 14 grams of sugar. Eaten whole, that is 480 calories.

Trader Joe’s adds its usual note that details “may have changed” since posting, and the page lists no dates. It sits in the chain’s new-items rotation, grouped with other recent arrivals under “So, What Else is New?”

Our cookie with the same two chips

Readers who want the same idea from the oven have it here. Our Chocolate Chip Cookies use the same pairing, a cup each of semisweet and milk chocolate chips, in a butter, brown sugar and vanilla dough that the card describes as soft and chewy. For a bigger, thicker cookie, our Brown Butter Chocolate Chip Cookies are scooped at about three tablespoons of dough each, with chocolate chips and chopped chocolate in a browned-butter dough. Neither is a copycat of the Trader Joe’s cookie; they are our recipes on the same flavor.

Our October 10 story covered Trader Joe’s other new bakery-case item this month, the Teeny Tiny Pumpkin Pies.
