Tiff’s Treats Is Handing Out Free Tiffwich Ice Cream Sandwiches To Kids In Uniform On Saturday And Sunday, October 24 And 25, Plus One For Whoever They Bring

Tiff’s Treats is giving kids in sports uniforms a free Tiffwich ice cream sandwich this weekend. The offer runs Saturday, October 24, and Sunday, October 25, during normal store hours at all of the chain’s retail locations, the company said in a release on Monday, October 19. It calls the event “Treat the Team.”

The rules

The release spells them out:

  • Who: kids 18 and under “involved in sports and team activities,” wearing their uniform.
  • What: one free Tiffwich Ice Cream Sandwich per athlete.
  • The plus-one: each qualifying athlete can bring a teammate, parent or friend, who also gets a free Tiffwich. The limit is one for the athlete and one for the guest.
  • The catch: the athlete must be present and in uniform to redeem.
  • When: Saturday, October 24, and Sunday, October 25, during normal store hours.
  • Where: Tiff’s Treats retail stores. The company points to its retail locations page to find the nearest one. The release says “all retail locations”; it does not say the offer applies to delivery orders.

A Tiffwich is the chain’s cookie ice cream sandwich; its ice cream menu lists it beside scoops of vanilla, chocolate, cookies and cream, and mint chocolate chip.

“We love being part of these everyday traditions and wanted to give young athletes and their supporters a reason to celebrate together with a cold, sweet treat,” Tiffany Chen, the company’s co-founder and chief creative officer, said in the release.

A company that started with an apology

Tiff’s Treats describes itself as “the original warm cookie delivery company,” and the release repeats the founding story the chain tells. In 1999, Tiffany Taylor stood up Leon Chen for a date by accident. She baked a batch of warm cookies and delivered them as an apology, and the two, then 19-year-old sophomores at the University of Texas at Austin, opened the business with “$20, a cell phone and a dream,” the release says. The company is based in Austin and takes orders online, through its app and by phone.

The homemade version

We do not have an ice cream sandwich recipe, but we have the cookie to build one on. Our Chocolate Chip Cookies are a butter and brown sugar dough with a cup each of semisweet and milk chocolate chips, and the card describes them as soft and chewy. That is our recipe, not a Tiff’s Treats copycat, and the card says nothing about freezing them or filling them with ice cream.
