Ingredients – What you need for the Cinnamon Heart Cookies

Flour

There are some dry ingredients that are a staple when it comes to making great cookies and flour is one of them. It gives structure to the cookie. We like to use all-purpose flour for this recipe. You will need 2 cups for this. When you measure the flour use a spoon and sift it.

Butter

For this recipe, you need 1 cup of butter that is softened at room temperature.

Granulated Sugar

White sugar is what will give these cookies that extra sweetness. You only need 3/4 cup of it and it will produce incredible chewy cookies.

Red Cinnamon Hearts

This is what will make these cookies extra special this Valentine’s Day. You need 3/4 cup of crushed cinnamon hearts for the cookie dough and you will want 16 whole hearts for the tops of the cookies.

Last of all, you will need extra sugar for dusting.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do you store these Cookies?

These are great cookies to make and store. They will need to be placed in an airtight container when they are baked and cooled. They can be stored at room temperature and will be at their best for up to a week.

How should I soften the butter?

You can leave the butter out on the countertop and at room temperature for a couple of minutes and that will help the butter to soften up. You can also use the microwave if you want to speed up the process. It will likely only need about 15 seconds, depending on the power of your microwave. You don’t want to melt the butter, and you also want to make sure that the butter isn’t too hot. This won’t be any good to make cookies. The best method is to leave it out for a little while.

What is the best way to crush the cinnamon hearts?

A quick option would be to add the cinnamon hearts to a freezer bag and then use a rolling pin to crush them up. It is simple and a great way to keep the crushed cinnamon hearts contained until you need them.

How to make the Cinnamon Heart Cookies

First of all, you will want to gather all of your ingredients together. Place the cinnamon hearts into a zipped bag and use a meat tenderizer to crush the hearts. Or use whatever you have to hand that will help crush them up into small pieces.

Next up you will want to combine the butter and sugar in the mixing bowl and beat until mixed well. Add flour and mix until the dough pulls together and is smooth. Fold the crushed cinnamon hearts into the flour mixture

Roll the cinnamon mixture into 1-inch balls. Once you have done that you can place the cookie dough balls onto a cookie sheet, and press down on top of each ball with a bottom of a glass. A quick tip is to rub the bottom of the glass with a little flour. This avoids any of the cookie dough from sticking to the bottom of the glass.

Use a fork and gently press down on each cookie. Sprinkle sugar on the top of each cookie and add one cinnamon heart in the middle to create your cinnamon heart cookies.

Bake the cookies for 13-15 minutes. They should be a lovely golden color on the bottom. Let the cookies cool before removing them from the baking sheet and then transferring them to your chosen container.

Take these Cinnamon Cookies to the next level

You could make a little icing and drizzle the white icing on top of the cookies. All you need is some icing sugar and water. You could even add some food coloring to make them extra cute.

Dip these cookies into a little melted chocolate. White or milk chocolate would work well with these tasty cookies.
